Getting Started

The University of South Florida Education Abroad Office (EAO), in partnership with USF academic and administrative units and colleges, are strongly encouraging students to study abroad during their academic career. To this end, the faculty members play an essential role in encouraging and advising students to participate in study abroad. The faculty-led program model allows students to go abroad with a group of fellow students, with whom they can share the hands-on experience of doing activities they cannot do in an on-campus classroom. If you would like to facilitate a Faculty Led Program please find below a description of all our program options we currently offer.

Developing a New Faculty Led Program (Stand Alone).

Faculty-led programs (Stand Alone) are a particularly important means of encouraging our students to study abroad and of ensuring the academic quality and integrity of programming. Faculty-led study abroad programs are programs in which the academic instruction on-site is provided by USF faculty or specially-contracted host institution faculty teaching existing USF courses.

If you have never facilitated a Faculty Led Program or if you have led one in the past and want to propose a different program you will need to take our Intake Survey. The Intake Survey will let us know what you are planning and what assistance you will need from us. Please click the link below to take the survey. This is a mandatory step in the process. Once you take the survey, someone from our office will contact you with further steps.

Deadlines for Proposing a Faculty Led Program (Stand Alone or Embedded):
Academic Year 2017-2018

Fall Semester 2017: 1/15/2017
Spring & Spring Break 2018: 04/15/2017
Summer 2018: 08/15/2017

Developing a New Faculty Led Program (Embedded)

A Faculty Led Embedded is different from a Faculty Led Program because it is any undergraduate or graduate course taken at the USF campus that includes an international, credit-bearing travel component. The international travel component is typically 5-10 days, often during Spring Break, in between semesters or in the summer.

Applying to an Existing Education Abroad Program (USF IN)

We have several opportunities for faculty members who would like to teach abroad but not develop a whole program. They are called our “USF IN” programs and they happen in a variety of cities during the summer. These programs will give a faculty member an opportunity to teach abroad without having to plan the housing, transportation and other logistics. These programs must be applied to and faculty are chosen from a pool of applicants.
In order to apply,
  1. Click your program of choice below and complete the PDF Application.
  2. Email the completed application to the Advisor associated with that program.
